Brink is Bringing sexy back! That’s right with Bethesda’s newest release of Brink is on shelves right now! Brink is a solid game with tons of features and game play that changes every time you play or replay a level.

Brink is an immersive shooter that blends single-player, co-op, and multiplayer gameplay into one seamless experience, allowing you to develop your character across all modes of play. You decide the role you want to assume in the world of Brink as you fight to save yourself and mankind’s last refuge for humanity. Brink offers a compelling mix of dynamic battlefields, extensive customization options, and an innovative control system that will keep you coming back for more.

A man-made floating city called the Ark, made up of hundreds of separate floating islands, is on the brink of all-out civil war. Originally built as an experimental self-sufficient and 100% “green” habitat, the reported rapid rise of the Earth’s oceans has forced the Ark to become a refuge for humanity.  Crammed with the original Ark founders, their descendants, as well as tens of thousands of refugees, the Ark exists in total isolation from the rest of the world. With 25 years of social unrest, the inhabitants of the Ark have reached their breaking point. It’s up to you to decide the future of the Ark and the human race.

With different classes to choose from Soldier, Operative, Engineer and Medic and tons, tons of customization for each side of the game you choose to be ether the Resistance or Security. Each class has around 10-15 add-ons you can purchase for each class. Hence, if you are a soldier you can upgrade and purchase abilities as extra magazine clip, being able to scavenge supplies off dead players. But don’t just upgrade one class as you will need to change classes through out each mission or game you are playing. Certain classes do specific things, such as a operative can hack a computer, an engineer can repair or build MG Nests.

By playing and completing missions you will gain XP points and level up. Every time you do so you get points to purchase upgrade abilities, very useful in different missions, we found that by using the Engineer and upgrading to be able to deploy a turret machine gun can help distract and eliminate enemies to be able to get one of your teammates to complete a mission objective like completing a hack or blowing a door down. You can play ether offline or online and have a great time doing ether, we found the online to be much more enjoyable and less frustrating. Brink also has a very cool feature of playing both sides of the campaign, and by doing so you can play out each level and get to see the out come of each side of the Ark.

The control and being able to free movement over any object in the game by running, climbing or sliding around concerned us at first. But then we got our hands on the game and by adding these elements to the game is not only unique but adds a level to the game that no other game has and puts Brink and Bethesda far above any other game out there! After trying each of the sprinting, climbing and sliding and attacking and the same time it’s easier than we thought. It’s almost as if we have had these features all along and cannot imagine a game without them! Bethesda we LOVE you for taking games in new directions and new chances.

The graphics are without a doubt by far some of the best quality in a game, one of the little bonus that we noticed and love is that the character you create (by the way you can create more than one) that has 1,000s of different looks and combinations of clothes, jackets, face paint and such, that made character appears in the cut scenes. When we first noticed this is was shocking that Bethesda want as far as to add your player to the cut scenes makes you feel part of the story and in the game.

When playing through missions the best thing to do is team work, by using team work you have a higher chance at success rather than trying to be a “one man army”. By running off by yourself you are most likely to get yourself killed many, many times (yes we found out the hard way). One of the problems that we found, on mission of Escorting or having to blow something up and there is a hallway or a narrow entrance the opposing team can occupied them and place turrets and just mow down your entire team with no effort and can be very frustrating. But with team work and a little stargazing you can make it work and bust through the other teams defense, but it can also go the other way and help you shut the other team out!

Key Features:

  • Blurring the Lines Between Offline and Online – Advance your character’s development across every gameplay mode: single player, co-op, and multiplayer. Gain experience points that you can spend on customizing and upgrading your skills and abilities, designing an entirely unique look and feel for your character.
  • Groundbreaking KinestheticsBrink uses the familiar shooter controls that you’re used to, without frustrating, artificial constraints and takes advantage of a new feature: the SMART button.  When you press the SMART button, the game dynamically evaluates where you’re trying to get to, and makes it happen. No need to perfectly time a jump or vault, the game knows what you want to do.
  • Context-Sensitive Goals and Rewards – Objectives, communications, mission generation, and inventory selection are all dynamically generated based on your role, your status, your location, your squad-mates, and the status of the battle in all gameplay modes.  You’ll always know exactly where to go, what to do when you get there, and what your reward will be for success.

  • Virtual TexturingBrink’s proprietary technology, Virtual Texturing, breaks new ground on current-gen consoles and PCs with an even greater focus on highly detailed characters, realistic environments, lighting, effects, and atmospherics,. This competitive lead on the squad-combat genre helps thrust players into the gritty reality of the Ark’s epic secluded arcology.

All in all Brink is a “good buy” game of the summer for any gamer. The unique style of gameplay sets it apart from any other game and should be tried by anyone that owns a Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 system. The story draws you in and leaves you wanting more. The customization is amazing, as always with Bethesda and Brink is no different. The new features are a thrill to use. Final words, Buy it!

Game 2 Gamer’s Final Score 3.5 / 5

The game looks great but just not my style

  2. WatchGrassGrow says:

Brink has gotta be my favorite multiplayer game out right now. And now that they’ve fixed the lag for the most part, I cannot wait for the DLC

I’d like to provide you all with a different review: Don’t buy it! Brink offers nothing new. The smart running is nowhere near as impressive as it was supposed to be, I couldnt care less about the storyline, and in order to unlock the customization I would have had to actually spend time with the game, which I refused to do. I returned it (for a measly $23) the same day I bought it. The 6/10 IGN gave it is appropriate. There’s no reason whatsoever to play this game.
