Ms. Splosion Man is an action/puzzle platformer released as a sequel to Splosion Man on the XBLA Marketplace. It is developed by Twisted Pixel studios and is priced at a reasonable 800 MS points.

The game has a very quirky nature to it, and puts you in control of, you guessed it, Ms. Splosion Man. The game, just like its prequel, has a very simplistic control scheme, requiring only the use of a single button (the ‘splody one) and your control via the analog. With its very easy to understand controls, this game is also popular among the younger gamers.

In the game, you must move around my using the ‘sploding button to literally explode and pop up into the air to get around the map. You can ‘splode into the air 3 times before you must wait to recharge your ability. By combining these jumps with wall bounces and several kinds of environmental items (explosives) you can get a fair bit of a boost to get on with your way to the end of the level. Since you are trying to escape the lab in which you were created in, you must also avoid the scientists (or kill them!) as well as any traps or hazards in your way.

The art style has been maintained with the series and has a very fun and vibrant, cartoon-like animations and it combines that with quite a good sense of humour. With this great combination, you will have quite a bit of fun with this game before you think of putting it down.

The game offers a standard single player campaign style gametype as well as a unique addition called the “2 girls 1 controller” mode where you control two seperate characters simultaneously. You also get a 4 player online and offline co-op where you can team up with your buddies to play the game a whole different way. Overall, the game felt a bit harder than the first but what with its forgiving checkpoint system and the ability to skip to the next part, makes it fun for any type of gamer. The boss battles are pretty fun and unique too with a good couple laughs out of each one.

For 800 MS, this game has a lot to offer, from its gameplay to its humor, and all the way down to a good multiplayer support including free DLC. This game is a must buy for any platformer fan and so the final word is:

Game 2 Gamer’s Final Score 4 / 5
