Playing the roles of the Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Man: Edge of Time propels gamers on a high-octane, adrenaline-fueled adventure in which the heroic web-slingers must urgently work together across time to save each other and prevent a disaster that ultimately leads to the death of the Amazing Spider-Man.  Against the backdrop of a rich, tightly crafted narrative by acclaimed Marvel veteran writer Peter David, the game features two individual timelines evolving in parallel, as well as “cause-and-effect” moments driven by the narrative. The game utilizes “picture-in-picture” moments where the actions of the Spider-Man in the present immediately affect the Spider-Man in the future and his surroundings.

KEY FEATURES:

  • Save Spider-Man – The timelines of the Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 begin to unravel as a mysterious and nefarious villain goes back in time to remake the world in his image and kill Peter Parker, resulting in a chaotic, dystopian version of the future.  Fans will take on the roles of both the Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099, who must overcome their differences and work together across time to prevent a disastrous new world order and save each other.

  • Change the Future by Changing the Past – Story-driven “cause-and-effect” moments make their debut in the Spider-Man videogame franchise.  Utilizing exciting “picture-in-picture” visuals to enhance interactions between the Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099, players will be able to see the immediate effects of one Spider-Man’s actions on the other’s timeline with expected – and sometimes unexpected – results.

  • Race Against Time in an Epic Adventure – Backed by a rich, complex story penned by veteran Marvel writer Peter David (co-creator of Spider-Man 2099), players will experience a thrilling, action-packed adventure with a deep story detailing the adventures of two similar, but uniquely different super heroes across a time-span of nearly a century.

  • Harness the Unique Abilities of Each Spider-Man – The combat abilities have been refined for the Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 to really highlight the distinct fighting styles of each character, including a new Hyper-Sense mode for the fast and acrobatic Amazing Spider-Man and an Accelerated Decoy capability for the technologically advanced Spider-Man 2099.

Non-stop action from the moment that you load the game up and start. Marvel comics and Activision took 2 of the best Spider-Man titles and brought them together in an action packed game. Spider-Man Edge Of Time gives the player the ability to control both Amazing and 2099 stories that affect one another with actions that immediately can change the outcome in each world.

The gameplay is straight forward, beat up the bad guys and save the world and look good while doing so. You get to upgrade each of the Spidey’s by collecting orbs and using them to buy new moves and make Spider-Man just more awesome. The great thing that is that instead of having to purchase every upgrade, as soon as you start your characters already have almost half of the abilities and special moves. That’s a plus. Activision and Beenox gave the characters an emotional bond that you develop while playing to get attached to the story and this is where other games lacked at really drawing in the player, but Spider-Man EOT breaks through in an amazing story.

The controls at times feel a little sluggish as it seems you want to do a combo or a move and the response just isn’t there. It doesn’t affect the gameplay too much, but you can tell. The graphics are more than past Spider-Man and comic book based games. Spider-Man EOT has short cut scenes throughout the game that help move the story along and gives it that comic book “feel” and the movie “feel” as well. The game moves forward without a break in the story, this makes you want to keep playing and forget about time. Of course, just like in the comics Beenox added tons of multiple costumes to choose from and for us comic book fans that’s an awesome plus to add to the gameplay and give it a replay value and change of play.

Some of the camera angles aren’t the best at times, such as when the camera goes to a set angle and you have to fight or cawrl and you get the weird view and can’t change the view and you get caught in a corner and get frustrated trying to get your way out. While playing you also get a chance to do challenges. What they are is when you are playing you will get the option to do a challenge for bonus orbs and gold spiders to buy upgrades. These challenges are something like defeat 12 enemies without taking any hits or damage. Completing these are a major help to building up points to max out your states.

Activision has once again come through and with Beenox helming the game Spider-Man EOT. We at G2G can’t wait to what Activision does next, with the release of X-Men Destiny and now Spider-Man Edge Of Time. We hope Marvel gives Activision the rights to make a Deadpool game or open up the Marvel Universe and bring in some new characters for their own title!
