Mighty Mjölnir smashes and no foe can stop Thor! Sega’s newest release of Marvel’s Thor: God of Thunder in his own featured game.  Thor intertwines with the movie and its own story line. Sega also got the rights and likeness of both Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, as a comic nerd and after seeing the movie this is a huge A+ on Sega’s part.

Thor starts off in Asguard when attacked and you get to learn some of the powers that Thor wields. With thunder, lightning and wind at your desposal along with melee attacks with Thor’s famous hammer, Mjölnir. Sega was kind enough to not only have all of Thor’s powers but also gave him combos, attacks and grapples as well. What can we say, Thor is a beast!

For those that follow the comic and love comic book based video games, then look no farther, Sega has came through. As most, when announced that Sega would be handling the God of Thunder’s game there was concern. But Sega later announced that they had acquired the voice talents of Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth to be used in the game, than we knew Sega was on the right path to make of was past releases. And we were right!

Experience a spectacular, epic-scale original adventure in Thor’s first standalone game as he battles through numerous worlds of Norse mythology to overcome monstrous foes lifted from the pages of the comics. Wield Mjölnir, Thor’s legendary hammer, to fight enemies on an immense scale while controlling the elemental storm powers of lightning, thunder and wind to vanquish foes. Battle against legendary enemies including Ulik, Ymir and Surtur in conflicts that span realms ranging from primal worlds of fire and ice to extraordinary planets inhabited by Frost Giants, Trolls, and other monstrous denizens.

• Enchanted Uru Hammer: Feel the surging power of a Norse superhero as you devastate multiple enemies with melee combo attacks and hammer throws, utilizing Thor’s elemental storm powers of thunder, lightning, and wind.

• Epic Enemies: Take on an array of titanic enemies dozens of feet tall weighing over 20 tons using multiple strategies including grappling, vaulting and elemental attacks.

Annihilation 5th part 7YP7Z
• Original Storyline: Delve deeper into the heroic tales of the Thor universe with an original story created specifically for the video games.

• Play in 3D: the game can be played in 3D at anytime all you need is the glasses!

The mechanics of the game are very smooth  and as of yet we cannot report any glitches! The graphics and CGI cut scenes are very well rounded and fun to watch. One of the best features that Sega added into Thor is the ability to upgrade different attacks and powers. To be able to upgrade Thor you need to collect valor, and to there as several was to do this. You can do so be grappling an enemy and pressing the “Y” or “Triangle” button or you can collect valor be completing feats. A feats is different things as killing 10 enemies with throwing Mjölnir or destroying 100 enemies by using lightning. Some of the feats like grapple 25 enemies after completing it will change to grapple 75 enemies. We found this helpful as to we collected valor from not only the grapple kill but also working towards that feat. This is also helpful when going towards a few achievements in the game that require you to purchase all the upgrades

Now be careful and warned that when picking up the controlling time will fly and you will be hooked to the game. As here at the office 6 hours went by in a flash without noticing and kept playing. Another great feature we loved in the game was that if you beat it, you can carry over all your upgrades to another gameplay and try the game on a harder setting and get even more out of Thor. Some added bonus’ are different costumes, different color lightning and some cameo’s by other Marvel characters.

For the those wondering what is wrong with the game, we found some minor issues with the controls. One of the biggest problems we found was when trying to jump from ledge to ledge sometimes Thor will refuse to jump. And when this happens thankfully you just pop right back up and do not die. But it does drain your life and too many of these falls will kill you and then you must start back at a checkpoint. Another issue is when attacking, if you are surrounded and try to attack to the right and quickly want to attack to the right or any other direction you need to completely stop moving and attack in order to be able to change directions of your attacks. By doing so this means you will usually take damage. It is frustrating but can be avoided if you make sure to keep some power in your power bar to do special attacks. The last issue we found when playing was the health, you lose health to fast and to easy. Even with the health fully upgraded you still lose it and die way to fast for a god.

All in all the game is a must play for comic and movie fans alike. Players do not need to be a fan of the series of comics or have seen the movie to follow the game and anyone can pick it up and fully understand what is going on. The game mechanics are great and the visuals are very eye pleasing and the replay value is definitely worth it!

    Ryan you’re an asshole.

Thor was god awful. I didn’t play it, but the official IGN reviewer couldn’t even make it all the way through the game.
