The game start off in 1953 with a weird old man that is trying to hire what we can only a hunter of some sorts to track down a troll. This has been the older man’s life long obsession and he finally has a lead. Hence, where the tracker comes in. And fade to 5 years later…

We get our first look at the main character Otto, and his mother. Basically it looks as Otto and his mother live in the mountains in a village that is remote from most towns. When we first see Otto and his Mom she is coming back from the woods and Otto begins to tell his mother how dangerous the woods are and to not go out again alone, and in the very next statement Otto says he is going out to the woods to hunt and get food, alone. Come on, this is just contradicting himself.

As we finally get to take control of Otto we learn to hunt. We first get the skill of making spears. Then we learn that Otto has a tracking ability, by holding (X) you track and show the footprints of wild boars then you spear and then gut. Awesome. Once you gather meat you see smoke coming from the village and run back to it to find it on fire…

This is where the game gets, well, un-fun. Your mouth is injured and you are blocked off from each other from falling trees. A tree that is in the way ( I will get back to this very soon). Your mother tells you to run and she will find you. So you take off and start running. This is some of the stuff that does not make sense to me, and I understand it is a video game about a Troll, but I am trying really hard to not throw my controller.

You are running from a fire with falling tree that you have to push (A or O) to ether slide or jump over the loge and keep running… and now I will go back to the reference of the log blocking you from Otto’s mother. Why couldn’t he jump over it then?? But the frustrating and annoying thing of the game so far, we died about 17-22 times on this single part of the game. You run and jump or slide over and under logs. But wait… there’s more, the fire is somehow moving at an alarming rate and is chasing you over rock and sand. How? And it gets better, after dodging the trees the fire catches you and you die, and die over and over and over.

The graphics of Troll and I are subpar, and look somewhat unfinished or it looks as if it was made for past consoles and was shelved and just got more funding. The controls lack the response time and is just super disappointing. Most of these problems make the game very hard to finish. I really hope some DLC or patches help this game in the near future. Because we had high hopes for this

Game 2 Gamer’s Final Score – 2/5

Frustration Level –

Replay value – Low
