New project to begin next year says ‘Final Fantasy XV’ director Hajime Tabata
After ‘Episode Ignis’ is released later this year, ‘Final Fantasy’ director Hajime Tabata suggested that they will start working on a new project.
The “#Final Fantasy XV“ team headed by director #Hajime Tabata is looking forward to making a new project next year. The game director, who was also the producer of the 2016 film “Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV” that runs parallel to the game, was recently interviewed by IGN about the next DLC which is scheduled for release later this year.
The revelation was greater than expected. According to Tabata, once they completed the story arc of “Episode Ignis,”, they hope to draw a line separating the 2016 blockbuster video game and the next project by the end of the year. However, Tabata was unclear whether they will create a new IP or another “Final Fantasy” game.
He did note though that “#FFXV“ served as a good learning experience moving to the next project.
What’s next of ‘FFXV’?
“Episode Ignis” will be the third and final major DLC for “FFXV.”. According to Tabata, they expect to release this downloadable content before the year ends. Then, they plan to reach out and engage the gaming community to see whether they missed out anything or if there are other things they want to see in the game.
Tabata said he also wants to see certain content added to the game like the stories of Ardyn and Luna who also served as key characters. He intends on exploring their worlds just like the other DLCs. He added that they will come up with a survey to establish which character the community wants to see next.
However, the game director did not make any promises of another story arc for “FFXV.” Should their tight schedule permit, Tabata intends to create a twist based on the community’s suggestion before heading for another project.
Another ‘Final Fantasy’ or a new IP
The game director then hinted about a new project which is about to start next year. “Every single thing that we’re doing then really is something that we have to do to get the experience to move on to do our next project.”
Tabata intends to push for the new project at the beginning of next year. However, he did not give any hint about whether it will be another “Final Fantasy” universe or a new IP.
Additional ‘Final Fantasy XV’ twists
The game developer is coming up with the third and final downloadable content (DLC) for “Final Fantasy XV” later this year which will center on Ignis, one of Noctis’ three companions. Two early DLCs were released — “Episode Gladiolus” and “Episode Prompto” — and both run parallel to the game’s main story.
Square Enix also plans to release a new multiplayer mode called “Comrades.” As reported earlier by IGN, players can create a customized character where they can later join up to three other players in taking on multiplayer quests. Also, PlayStation VR game called “Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV” is scheduled for release this coming Nov. 21, 2017.
Back at GamesCom 2017, Tabata hinted at the possibility of making the game available on Nintendo Switch. While he did not make any promises, he teased that the chance of making a Nintendo version is not zero.
