It’s fastball versus stinkball as SpongeBob, ZIM, Dudley Puppy, Fanboy, Chum Chum, Stimpy and more “go yard” with superstars from all 30 MLB clubs. Out-of-this-world ballparks, color commentary by Perch Perkins and exciting baseball action bring this epic showdown home.

2K Play made a semi-fun game, more along the lines for kids up to 12 to play with their favorite cartoon characters in a sports type setting. The idea is a good one and it is fun to see Ren & Stimpy back in action alongside of fan favorites like Powdered Toast Man. Each Nicktoons character has different ratings for strength and weakness’ for speed, hitting, throwing and catching, as well each has another rating for pitching, each pitcher has different throws like fastball, curveball, knuckleball and so on that are all rated differently.

The game features 25 nicktoon characters and over 300 MLB all-stars. You can pick between different modes like tournament, showdown, distance derby and pick up game. Pick up game is the basic game if you just want a single game. Distance derby is the same concept as Homerun derby. You hit balls at targets to add up points and get more than the other player for the win. Tournament is you guessed it, season. You beat teams for 2 out of 3 to advance to the next team until you play the Headliners (the nicktoons team) to become champion. For each strike you throw you build up turbo, once you have a full turbo bar you can unleash a power hit for a homerun, a special catch, a speed boost or a turbo throw.

It is a fairly entertaining game, but does lack the ability to keep you entertained for more than a game or 2. It is a great concept however it feels something is missing. We could never put our finger on it though. So, the most annoying, frustrating thing in this game, it has 56 collector cards that you unlock be doing certain things such as “3 up, 3 down” in an inning. One of the cards is to pitch a “9-inning no-hitter” game. We did this and unlocked the achievement for 100gs points, but not the collector card to unlock the achievement for unlocking all 56 cards. It may be a glitch, but a very annoying glitch.

Nicktoons MLB is a fun game at time and is also kinect ready, but in our opinion it’s way better with the good ol’ controller. Watching old cartoon classic characters take on MLB super stars is fun to watch and a new twist on sports.
