Modern Warfare 2 – Changing of the Guard

The time a lot of us have been waiting for is finally upon us.  The next installment of the re-telling of the of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare series is getting ready to drop, and if you pre-ordered it, you are among the many who have been able to dive into the campaign early. We have gladly taken back up the mantle as Soap MacTavish and charge into battle with Captain Price, Gaz and Ghost, as part of the elite group Task Force 141. This iconic team took me on one of the most thrilling adventures in video gaming history.

As with the 2019 re-hashing over Modern Warfare, this is a modernized retelling of the story of Task 141. The gang is definitely all here this time around, as well as the new faces we met in Modern Warfare, and the story is just as decently thought out as the 2019 rehash.

First let’s talk about mechanics and gameplay. I’m going to include over controls in here as well as I haven’t really gotten to implement the dolphin dive into the gunfights that you are tossed into in the campaign. Overall, it feels like a solid game, the only new action that was included is the aforementioned dolphin dive, poking its head back into the COD world from the Black Ops days. Next comes the over all feel of the game, and I have to say that the game is smooth. The biggest thing that is both a frustration and a blessing (I think) is that your characters feel like the have weight; meaning that they have to build momentum when they are starting a sprint. This was something that believed was missing from the franchise for a long time. Another mechanic that I believe the game is in need for is a tilt mechanic aside of bracing your gun to the corner of a wall or on a door jam. This is not a deal breaker, but again this is all based on campaign, I’ll be diving into multiplayer later this week.

Graphically, this game is beautiful, especially when running on pc. It not hard to see that the production value of these games has gone up every, giving the best in motion capture and cut scenes with ever iteration. This mission takes through various environments, each painstakingly crafted to give you the feeling that you actually have your boots on the ground. And we get to travel to some sandy places to some places that were crafted so beautifully that you have to admire how much work went into creating it for the scene, and the locals are pretty diver with Mexico and Amsterdam being just a some of the places we visit.

Overall, this outing with Soap and the boys of Task Force 141 takes back down memory lane, re-awaking the childhood dreams of being an elite solider, well for some of us. It is a game that is full of homages to its predecessor, yet it creates a whole new set of experiences for us to have. Not only does it look like a fresh take of a beloved series, it is a fresh take of a beloved series. The length of the campaign will vary however it is roughly a 6-to-9 hour excursion this time around, a saddening discovery as if feels like they are setting up for a new COD universe. I will be giving a complete rating with the inclusion of MP just after launch, but as it stands the campaign was worth the purchase alone.

Game 2 Gamer’s Final Score: 5\5

Frustration Level : Mid

Replay Value: (not including Online Multiplayer) Mid
